"30 years ago: Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash"

30 years ago today, on October 20th, 1977, a plane carrying Southern Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd crashed near a forest in McComb, Mississippi, killing lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, Guitarist Steve Gaines, Vocalist Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray. Other members of the band were injured seriously, but survived and went on to continue the band's legacy.
